- History : This appellation was granted in 1961 and concerns in the department of Côte d'Or, 12 localities in the Hautes Côtes district and 10 in the high slopes of the Côte de Beaune district; the other localities are situated further along, in the department of Saône et Loire

Total domain surface area in 2 plots, 1 ha 03 a 56 ca in the locality of Meloisey, from where the appellation all started.


Sector Le Clou : another form of « clos » meaning a walled plot belonging to a local squire
- Domain surface area: 65 a 60 ca
- Orientation: SE at an altitude of 350 to 380m
- Slope: 10 to 12%
- Date planted: 1978 and 1981
- Vinestock: SO 4
- Graft: Pinot Noir, visual selection
- Soil: clay, light coloured
- Taste: from this plot, the wine is well coloured with an aroma of fresh red berries, mineral on the palate with long aftertaste.
 
Sector La Dalignière :
- Domain surface area: 37 a 96 ca
- Orientation : SE at an altitude of 350m
- Slope: 3 to 5%
- Date planted: between 1957 and 1964
- Vinestock: 3309 C and 5 BB
- Graft: Pinot Noir, visual selection
- Soil: shallow red earth with small stones
- Taste: the wine from this plot is one with a good, matured fruit aroma complex with well balanced tannin hints.

- Blending: as the wines from these two plots are complementary insofar as aroma and structure are concerned, they are blended at the end of the maturing stage in casks.

- Serving temperature: 15-16°C and it can be advisable to decant recent vintages to enhance the aroma.
