Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière

 

Domaine Berthelemot cultivates 7.8 ha in the Côte de Beaune winegrowing district.

Santenay is known for its thermal springs as well as for its wine; wines produced are chiefly red, cultivated over 326 ha in the communes of Santenay and Remigny.

 

Appellation: Santenay 1er cru red wine

 

-Plot: La Maladière (total surface area 13ha.58a)

-History : « Maladière » is derived from “maladreries”, a hospice for sick people people in medieval times, of which there were ruins in the vicinity

-Orientation: SE on a slope with a gradient of 5% and altitude 240/280m

-Domain surface area: 45a.10ca.

-Date planted: 1978 and 2004

-Graft: pinot noir clone

-Vinestock: 161-49 C

-Soil: split limestone pebbles covered with marls

 

-Taste: rich red in colour, the wine has red fruit aromas; in the mouth it is supple but well structured with fine tannins and a persistent finish

 

-Serving temperature: 15/16°C and recent vintages may be decantered to enhance the aroma.
